Modern Short Stories
- In a small group, read one of the following stories from the textbook:
- "Soldier's Home"
- "Winter Dreams"
- "A Worn Path"
- "The Jilting of Granny Weatherall"
- "Leader of the People"
- "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty"
- "The Life You Save May Be Your Own"
- Be ready for a quiz on Tuesday on your story.
- Prepare a presentation with your group (on poster) including the following information:
- Identify the setting of the story.
- Summarize the plot of the story in a paragraph or two.
- Describe each of the characters in the story. Identify one quote or description of a character that demonstrates their personality.
- Describe the tone or mood of your story. What words/phrases help to create that mood?
- Identify the major theme of the story.
- Read the information about the author in the book (on the pages right before the story begins). Summarize what is important to know about the author for your story.
- How does this story fit into the ideals of the Modern time period? (see info in the book, pp. 631-643, or on goldenrod sheet)
